Cost Benefit Analysis

"The general who wins the battle makes many calculations in his temple before the battle is fought. The general who loses makes but few calculations beforehand." - Sun Tzu

The key to finding the best solution lies in the ability to calculate and compare the costs, benefits and risks of each viable alternative. This along with the evaluation of how well an alternative meets your functional requirements are the key components of Cost Benefit Analysis. Calculating the range of costs by category and capturing financial benefits is the purpose of the Service and Resource Planner, a fiscal tool in the tool set of the Technology Investment Request. An associated tool, the Cost Benefit Workbook is used to quantify and compare up to three alternatives on cost, benefit, risk and functional fit.
