How to Avoid Leaving Content in a Checked-in or Checked-out Status

How do I know if a content block has been left in a checked-out/Checked-In status

The content block below has been left in a Checked-Out Status.  Users will see the 'O' in the status column in the Ektron workarea and when you open the content block there will be NO EDIT Button.

If a contact block is left in a Checked-Out status and you are unable to edit it, please email the person who left the page checked out or webteam@admin.nv.gov and we will check the page in for you.

The content block below has been left in a Checked-In Status.  Users will see an 'I' in the status column and the content is available for editing.  However, you may want to contact the person who checked-in the page to see if any changes they made are ready to be published.  Any edits you make AND any edits made by the person who checked-in the page will all be pushed to the production website upon publishing.

The content block below has been left in a APPROVED/PUBLISHED status as shown by the 'A' in the status column and the content block is available and can be edited. Approved Content Blocks have been PUBLISHED!

Remember, if you clicked the edit button you must publish the content in order to avoid leaving it in a checked-out or checked-in status.

Why is content left in a checked-in or checked-out status?

      1. The most common reason why a user leaves something in a checked-out status is because they weren't sure they wanted to edit that content block, but clicked the EDIT button, and then pressed the CANCEL button instead of the PUBLISH button to leave the content block.
      2. The other reason a user would intentionally leave something in a checked-out status is because they have changes that need to be pushed to the production website at a particular time or the changes they've made have not been finalized or approved.

If you click the EDIT button to enter a content block you MUST PUBLISH the page to avoid leaving the content in a Checked-out Status.

          Resolution

There are two ways to VIEW a page without editing it.

          1. Click the name of the content block but DO NOT click the EDIT button. Now you can use the CANCEL button without leaving the content checked-out.
          2. Click the arrow to the right of the content block name and choose VIEW from the drop-down menu and DO NOT click on the EDIT button.  Now you can use the CANCEL button without leaving the content checked-out.
